2007 Award for Excellence in Government Information Services Winner
Every year, The Forum recognizes an individual whose work has definitively contributed to the overall improvement of government information services in New York State. In recent years public sector IT has become far more complex requiring integration across state-level agencies and with the local level. Moreover, government IT operations have become a likely target of external threats requiring a much higher degree of coordination and creative leadership. In today's fiscal environment, all of these challenges become even more difficult. All that is to say that The Forum's Annual Award for Excellence in Government Information Services has taken on new meaning in this complex and dynamic environment we operate in. Achieving "excellence in government information services," as judged by ones peers, is no small accomplishment.
This year's award was presented to Mike Mittleman, of the Office of the Chief Information Officer.
Dr. Mike has an extensive and impressive resume which reflects his gifts as a practitioner and theorist, published author and in-demand speaker - and at 12 pages also demonstrates his characteristic economy of words.
Dr. Mike has served NYS since joining the Office of Mental Health in 1997 as deputy commissioner and CIO.
Dr. Mike has also been a major player in the work of The Forum, elected to the Forum Executive Committee in 1999 and serving through 2003. He has always been an important "emissary" for the Forum, particularly as it related to introducing The Forum to State Leadership. Regardless of his particular title or role, Dr. Mike brings to NYS IT a strength, clarity of vision and a refreshing forthrightness - two important ingredients to getting IT done.
We wish to formally recognize and thank Dr. Mike for all he has done for everyone in New York State.
