Business Continuity Committee Initiatives and Accomplishments

2005-2006 Accomplishments
- Developed e-mail based mailing list of individuals within New York State, Local Government, County Government, and Educational Institutions who have previously attended a Forum sponsored Business Continuity Planning event as a basis for soliciting BCP participation and interest.
- Solicited NYS Agency CIOs and Agency Heads to identify staff within the agencies responsible for Emergency Response Planning, Business Continuity Planning, and Disaster Recovery Planning. Drafted an initial directory of NYS Agency staff with BCP / DR interest.
- Conducted an anonymous survey with NYS Agency BCP representatives for the purpose of getting a clearer understanding of where New York State Agencies stood with regards to the maturity of their Emergency Response Planning, Business Continuity Planning, and Disaster Recovery Planning
- Solicited NYS Agency BCP representatives for their needs and expectations with regards to what topics and initiatives the BCP committee take on which would be of interest or benefit to their agency.
- Conducted a Business Continuity Planning process overview presentation for NYS Agency BCP representatives.
- Continued to push for identification of a high-level NYS official to be charged with statewide BCP responsibility.
- Worked with NYS Tax & Finance to consider joint sponsorship of a "BCP Day". Awaiting identification of a statewide BCP leader.
Projected 2006-2007 Initiatives
- Develop a "How To" guide on producing Business Continuity Plans for government entities, including templates and guidance on how to use them. (3)
- Establish a contract with a vendor that agencies can use to buy hours for BCP consulting services.
- Provide resource material, informational sessions, hands-on workshops to walk through structured exercises. (1)
- Develop a NYS BCP Guidebook similar to the Project Management Guidebook. (4)
- Conduct a workshop on gaining Executive Sponsorship (support) for a BCP program
- Develop a sample RFP for a Hot Site.
- Identify Training opportunities for a business continuity analyst.
- Networking with others; comparing plans.
- Coordinate the efforts of various agencies and act as a clearinghouse for BCP/DR information.
- Secure executive level, transition sponsorship for business continuity including guidance for local governments. (19)
- Identify prospective locations for temporary office space and telecommunications capacities. (7)
- Develop and offer and educational forum for agency executives. (4)
