2005-2006 Accomplishments

  • Training Planned and Conducted

    • GOER/PEF Successful Web Communications Series (+ Video)
    • CTG's XML Testbed Project
    • AT Expo
    • Webmaster Guild
    • WOW Trainings
    • Presentation at Capital Area Technology Alliance
    • Presentation at New York State Local Government IT Directors Association
    • Currently working with GOER and Cornell University to explore creating online training modules from parts of Committee curriculum
  • Research

    • Conducted Review of OFT Tech. Policy P04-002 & Tech. Standard S04-001 & forwarded recommendations to OFT
    • Agency Consulting - Reviewed CSCIC Information Security CBT training program, NYS home page, IT Skills Inventory Application, OFT home page & ATP application, Tax online application, various technical questions from SUNY
    • Explored with vendors the feasibility of a validation tool to conform to NYS Tech. Standard S04-001

    • Monthly e-mail newsletter distributed to 160+ people subscribed to Committee listserv

  • Forging New Alliances

    • Added Microknowledge's Lisa Hebert Ryan as committee co-chair

    • Pursued and secured permanent approval for WOW as professional organization for the purpose of certifying WOW training as reimbursable for PEF employees.
    • Provided validation support to Forum Best of the Web judging
    • Technology Policy P04-002 Review and Recommendations to OFT
  • Policy Reviews and Recommendations

    • Facilitated review of Policy P04-002 and Mandatory Technology Standard S04-001 and solicited suggestions for change
    • Proposed new language for web site contracts as part of Policy P04-002
    • Provided ad-hoc technical support for OFT on a number of issues related to Policy P04-002 and Mandatory Technology Standard S04-001

Projected 2006-2007 Initiatives

  • Training

    • Continue to pursue creation of online learning content from Committee Curriculum
    • Develop series of successor classes to build on Successful Web Communications foundation
    • Explore development of more advanced curriculum modules and work to expand awareness on other issues (e.g., readability, digital divide, etc.)
    • Continue outreach to other private and public sector venues as opportunities present themselves (3)
    • When validation tool becomes reality, develop/deliver training in its use
    • Work with WOW on GTC awareness presentation for "creamy middle"
    • Work with SUNY to see if we can arrange video conference for December Web Guild presentation by Adobe on "Best Practices for Creating PDF Documents"
    • Presentations to Forum and CIO Council Committee Co-Chairs regarding changes to the state accessibility standards (7)
    • Develop expertise in streaming video
    • Increase overall awareness of accessibility issues (5)
    • Coordinate a presentation by NYC as an accessibility exemplar.
  • Research

    • Collect and compile requirements to assist in developing RFP for establishment of NYS-specific validation tool
  • Publications

    • Continue to update/expand Committee web site
    • Continue publishing monthly e-mail newsletter
    • Update Policy/Standards FAQ and seek a volunteer to help keep it up to date

    • Continue work on project to establish a NYS-specific validation tool

    • Provide technical support to Webmasters Guild in validating the Best of the Web contest entries
