Old Business:
- Agency Consulting:
- DCJS asked whether the blinking icon associated with Customer Survey directive was in compliance with NYSP08-005. Flicker rate is within acceptable range and the issue may be more of usability, not accessibility. "Smiley face/frown" not functionally suitable for some websites that service residents; i.e. Crime Victims Board. OFT has communicated with agencies that are not compliant with the animation feature
- Training - Progress Report:
- Writing for the Web: March 15 (proposed scheduling two ½ day sessions) (Kristen, Kathy)
- Creating Accessible PDF Documents February 25 (proposed scheduling two ½ day sessions if necessary) (Debi, Jeff) Marty Navojosky from DTF was originally involved in this session, but is returning to work after an illness and will not be able to participate at this time. We may do a separate session on PDF forms later in the year and Marty will assist with that one if scheduled.
- Interactions with Other Forum Work Groups:
- Web2.0 and Accessibility demos along with Accessibility / Usability discussions at Forum's Webmasters Guild meeting on February 5th. (Jason, Jim, Jeff, Estelle)
New Business:
- 508 Policy Recommendations:
- Implementation of new 508 has been stalled. CIO/OFT will engage in fact-finding with OGS to try and understand their objections. Possible discussion (VPAT) templates. Request to assist sent to AG's office on January 14. Begin formulating project team.
- Upcoming Presentations:
- Creating Accessible PDF's returning in February 25; Planning Sheet.(Debi, Lizette, Joel and possibly Anthony Califano). Discussion on how different screen readers process pdf documents differently (JAWS/Window-eyes, Adobe's "Say aloud").
- Writing for the Web scheduled for March. Provide link to materials at registration. Description of work shop needs to be clarified. Joel will contact Rebecca /Mike C. Evaluation of training either web based or paper based immediately after the session. Planning sheet needs submission. (Kristen/ Kathy)
- Web2.0 and Accessibility Meeting - February 5. Planning Sheet / AV needs taken care of (Jim C, Jason, Jeff, Estelle)
- Search Engine Optimization and Accessibility - Possibly late March or April. (Mike S, Jim C, Jason C.)
- Possible Social Media class including Twitter, Facebook, etc. - Emerging Technologies is planning a brief session targeting a broad audience. Contact Emerging Technologies (Corinne) to see if Accessibility can speak for 10-15 minutes on topic. (Estelle).
- Possible Web 2.0 Refresh (Re-visited) with the Webmasters' Guild. Many ARIA features have changed since the last presentation. A re-address of issues that made the technology inaccessible needs a re-evaluation. (Jim C.).
- Possible 508 Training- ½ hour sessions targeting Procurement, CIO, Legal (Estelle), PIO.
- Possible Accessibility 101 Training.
- Web 2.0 White Paper discussion: Changes accepted. Jason will post on wiki and (Attendees? listserv members?) will have the opportunity to comment. Paper will be submitted to Emerging Technologies January 21. (Laura)
