NYS Forum IT Accessibility Committee Meeting

Introductions:

  1. We welcomed the new members: Rich Bauer (DOH), Nicholas Hamm (Labor), Francesca Panetta McPhillips (DOH).

Ongoing Business:

  1. OFT Discussions: Kelly Stammel, the new Chair for Accessibility, shared the Empire Web 2.0 Services Report. Kelly will be replacing Marilyn Cordell for Accessibility in the OFT Policy unit.
  2. Agency Consulting:
    1. A11397 bill: Provided 9 page document for Statewide Accessibility. Debi will finalize draft and send comments on Section 508, section 16.1194.22 and Subpart C, section 1194.31. Overall supportive of legislation as it is a broad policy that aligns with the broad Federal 508.
    2. Deb Berg inquired on Enterprise Agreement for Accessibility and Captioning.
  3. Interactions with Other Forum Work Groups:
    1. Emerging Technologies Work Group - Web 2.0 presentation on 6/22/2010 was supported by Estelle from our ITAC team.
  4. Section 508 Refresh comments on Forum website. ITAC will provide ongoing support on an individual case basis.

New Business:

  1. Work Group Initiatives and Future Presentations:
    1. Search Engine Optimization and Accessibility - Possible segment of a future Webmaster Guild meeting in 2010-2011 calendar, will discuss with Jim C.
    2. Possible Web 2.0 Refresh (Re-visited) with the Webmasters' Guild (Jim C.) Many ARIA features have changed since the last presentation. A re-address of issues that made the technology inaccessible needs a re-evaluation. Call needed to Corporate Round Table. (Mark, Mike H.)
    3. Accessibility 101 Training- Since the last session was in 2008, (Debi) Curriculum will need updating. Should include DBTAC Northeast ADA Center at the Employment & Disability Institute at Cornell University. A potential presentation for the 2010-2011 Calendar (Estelle).
  2. Next Work Group Meeting is scheduled on September 9, 2010 at 2:30 pm at the Forum Offices.
