NYS Forum IT Accessibility Committee Meeting

Introductions:

  1. We welcomed the new members: Luke Charde (Labor), Jonathan Davis (OFT), Ashley Gnip (DOH), Andrew Peterson (OSC), Venkat Simha (Indotronix) and Donna Skyer (Health).

Ongoing Business:

  1. OFT Discussions:
    1. Gail Tassarotti: OFT shared they are looking for assistance on a new egov initiative oriented toward online applications. Meeting scheduled on 5/25 at 2:30 PM at CORE IV. Kristen and Estelle have volunteered to participate. Gail will send questions to work group for those that can't attend.
  2. Agency Consulting:
    1. Support was provided on the State Financial System and Accessibility concerns.
  3. Interactions with Other Forum Work Groups:
    1. Emerging Technologies Work Group - Web 2.0 presentation on 6/22/2010 from 9:00 AM until 12:15 PM.

New Business:

  1. Work Group Initiatives and Future Presentations:
    1. Creating Accessible PDF Documents: was held on May 12th from 9 AM until noon. Debi and Jeff presented. Presentation was well-received and had great interaction. Nearly 200 people participated in the event.
    2. Search Engine Optimization and Accessibility - Planning for the Fall of 2010-2011 Forum Calendar (Jim C, Mike S to support) Planning Sheet (Joel).
    3. Possible Web 2.0 Refresh (Re-visited) with the Webmasters' Guild. Many ARIA features have changed since the last presentation. A re-address of issues that made the technology inaccessible needs a re-evaluation. (Jim C.).
    4. Accessibility 101 Training- Since the last session was in 2008, (Debi) Curriculum may need updating. A potential presentation for the 2010-2011 Calendar.
  2. 508 Policy Update: CIO/OFT has released a revised NYS Policy, NYS - P08-005. This policy supersedes all prior revisions and requires compliance with Section 508 Subpart B, section 16.1194.22 and Subpart C, section 1194.31 and can be found at the following link: http://www.cio.ny.gov/Policy/NYS-P08-005.pdf
  3. Reminder: Unconference in Boston May 15th.
  4. Next Work Group Meeting is scheduled on June 10, 2010 at 2:30 pm at the Forum Offices.
