Project Management Committee Initiatives and Accomplishments

2004-2005 Key Committee Accomplishments
For the PM Community of Practice (open to all)
- In September 2004, in conjunction with the Project Management Institute Upstate NY Chapter, an Executive Symposium Panel and Luncheon was held on the importance of the Project Management Office: A Necessity for Today's Complex Projects.
- In September 2004 in conjunction with GTC, a session was held on Estimating Techniques and Tools for Project Managers.
- In April 2005, a session was held on Project Management Quality Assurance
For the PMO Roundtable (open to all agencies currently implementing a PMO or PM Practices)
The PMO Roundtable met several times on the following topics:
- MS-Project Server at NYS Tax and Finance
- PMO Lessons Learned
- 'Considerations in Selecting and Protecting your IT Investment' NYC Housing Authority (NYCHA) was the guest speaker
- Status Reporting Techniques
The PM Standing Committee members met monthly to plan and execute the above activities as well as the following Special Projects:
- Developed Peer Review Process for Proposed Projects in conjunction with the OCIO, and the CTG, and the CIO Council.
- Developed Business Case/Proposal template in conjunction with the CIO Fiscal Subcommittee
- Issued our first PM Committee Newsletter in February
- Substantially grew the artifacts in the PM Repository (hosted by OFT)
- Developed Resource Matrix of Agency SME's, with their various PM skills/experiences, who are willing to share their expertise
- Updated PM Committee web pages to emphasize the PM Tools available to members
- Continued to work with interagency committee and the Department of Civil Service on development of a PM Title Series
There are 17 active agencies that participate in the PMO Roundtable!
There are 151 people in the PM Community of Practice!
Projected 2005-2006 Initiatives
- Field Test and refine the Peer Review Process for In-Flight Projects in conjunction with the OCIO, and the CTG, and the CIO Council. (4)
- Finalize the Business Case/Proposal template in conjunction with the CIO Fiscal Subcommittee (2)
- Continue marketing efforts by publishing additional PM Committee Newsletters (2)
- Continue to grow the artifacts in the PM Repository (1)
- Work with the OCIO on a program on Project Portfolio Management in Support of the ATP process (5)
- Work with the Upstate NY Chapter of the PMI on joint programs to benefit both communities
- Continue to work with agencies on the PM Title Series
- Work with GOER and member agencies to gather existing PM curricula; repurpose existing content; develop new content; resulting in a modularized standard PM curricula that any agency could utilize. (5)
- NEW (suggested at July 15th Strategic Planning Session)
- Develop collaborative efforts across agencies and with other providers to afford greater training opportunities for agency staff (6)
