Business Continuity Planning/Security Committee Initiatives and Accomplishments

2004-2005 Key Committee Accomplishments

  • The strong alliance with CSCIC continues, providing four relevant webcasts on security-related issues. The audience has expanded to international participants!! There were over 1,400 simultaneous viewers of the last webcast. Webcasts this year have included - "Weakest Link - Is your computer vulnerable?", "Spyware and Adware", "Botnets" and the next one, this July, will be on "Wireless Security".
  • Added Identity Access Management (IAM) to the subject areas for focus.
  • Provided two IAM speakers to the CIO committee addressing IAM issues. The CIO committees on Security and Enterprise Infrastructure have joined forces to address this issue. The Forum Security committee is poised to offer additional speakers.
  • With the support of the Security Conference staff (CSCIC), added a BCP track for one day of the Cyber Security conference.

Projected 2005-2006 Initiatives

  • Separate committee to two more focused committees on Security and BCP respectively.
  • Security
    • Continue to support the international webcasts on security. (4)
    • Work with CSCIC to develop curriculum and a webcast for 4th and 5th graders to support an educational initiative this October for National CyberSecurity Awareness Month.
    • Increase support to the CIO committee members addressing IAM. (6)
    • Provide additional resources to the CIO committee for educational presentations on Identity and Access Management
    • Resource directory of security tools, solutions and companies. (Repository) Development of this repository would include expansion to support other committees.
    • IAM health check audit/assessment (1)
    • IAM information repository: vendor solutions, white papers (Repository)
    • NEW (suggested at July 15th Strategic Planning Session)
      • Work with groupings of small agencies to identify security needs (3)
  • Business Continuity
    • Repository of business continuity tools, solutions and companies. (3)
    • Solicit agencies for BCP representatives and establish a printed directory of agency contacts for BCP and DR. (2)
    • Update of BCP health check (1)
    • Solicit agencies to gather templates of plans (1)
    • Investigate with Disaster Recovery Institute International to see what kind of DR and BCP training could be made available for agencies.
    • Establish Executive Committee session with a presentation by a credentialed BCP/DR organization (4)
    • NEW (suggested at July 15th Strategic Planning Session)
      • Develop statewide standards (3)
      • Develop a joint Forum/CSCIC initiative regarding Federal requirements
