2005-2006 Accomplishments

  • Merged the Local Government Committee into the Small and Medium Agency SIG.
  • Held a meeting in late Fall 2005 during which a guest speaker, Jeanne Brown, talked about the Digital Towpath initiative. In addition to helping local governments with web site development and maintenance, Digital Towpath is viewed as a possible model for other small, governmental organizations.
  • Brainstormed ideas that are important to small agencies, such as a shared data backup facility. Though there have been no new developments on this subject, it continues to be an identified need for small agencies.
  • Provided input through commentary on the development of an automated ATP (annual technology plan).

Projected 2006-2007 Initiatives

  • Conduct an evaluation of the SIG's direction and need. Future endeavors will be determined during this evaluation.
  • Work with OFT and the OCIO to ensure that small agency perspectives are included when developing and implementing IT policy initiatives.
  • Re-mission the SIG into an advisory committee for small and medium agencies, including local governments. (8)
  • Conduct an annual review of issues and concerns with the OCIO and NYS Office of Technology. (2)
  • Undertake a targeted agency mailing to engage a broader audience of small and medium agencies.
