The Technical Intersections of Sustainable IT and Cost Reduction Strategies

This session will provide an overview of how Microsoft is addressing the increasing environmental sustainability concerns of our customers and partners and will include a discussion of how we are reducing our energy demands, managing energy and environmental footprint, and rethinking our business practices. The session will focus on Microsoft's sustainable practices and environmental stewardship, and how we are partnering with industry and the broader community for global impact. The presentation will be organized such that the Reduce, Manage, and Rethink themes of our Environmental Sustainability Framework are clearly articulated. Additionally, an appropriate level of drill-down will be offered in technology topics such as Virtualization, Unified Communications, Desktop and Server Power Management, and Online/Cloud Services.
Michael Valletta is the Technical Director of the Microsoft Technology Center in New York City. He has been with Microsoft for over 12 years in various roles ranging from a Technical Architect to his current leadership role. Michael has over 15 years experience in the industry and as part of his role, Michael was asked to architect and manage the Sustainable IT initiative for the Microsoft Technology Centers across the 15 facilities worldwide. He is a member of the Environmental Sustainability team at Microsoft corporate assisting with collateral creation, strategy and messaging.
