2007 NYS Forum Strategic Planning Session
On the morning of Friday, July 13, 2007 the NYS Forum hosted its Annual Planning Session at the Holiday Inn on Wolf Road in Albany. Attended by more participants than ever before, the session provided opportunities to discuss committee initiatives previously identified for the coming year, to suggest new initiatives and to participate in the prioritization of initiatives.
Overall, IT Procurement received the highest number of priority votes cast by participants (38-17%), followed closely by Business Continuity Planning (34-15%) and Emerging Technologies (31-14%). Overall priority results for other topics/committees were IT Greening (23-10%), Small/Medium/Local Agency SIG (23-10%) Webmasters' Guild (21-9%), Project Management (20-9%), MATRIX (15-7%), Security (12-5%), and Accessibility (8-4%).
In terms of specific initiatives, the largest number of participant priority votes was cast for the Business Continuity Planning Committee initiative to continue to work toward establishing an owner for business continuity at the NYS Executive level to ensure a higher level of accountability among agencies in emergency preparedness. Tied for the second highest number of priority votes received were the IT Greening Committee's initiative to conduct a major IT Greening Conference and the IT Procurement Committee's initiative to conduct a session on IT procurement for both agency and procurement and IT staff, including vendor perspectives on solicitations to increase competition (perhaps a session patterned after the previously offered IT Contracting Symposium). The third highest vote-getting initiative was that of the Project Management Committee to promote awareness of the new state project management title series and the civil service exam. Fourth was the Small/Medium/Local Agency SIG initiative to undertake educational efforts focused on common services and best practices to benefit small agencies.
All of the committee accomplishments for 2006-2007, projected initiatives for 2007-2008 and results of the July 13th new suggestions and priority voting is available at Forum Committees Initiatives and Accomplishments.
