Session Description
Business Rules
Speaker time: 1-2 hours depending upon the topic and number of speakers

Public policy impacts almost every aspect of our lives, be it economic, social or cultural. Our economic well-being is, to a large extent, determined by the fiscal and monetary policies of government, while socially we are often affected by public policy on a range of issues from healthcare and education to welfare and the legal system of justice.

It is, therefore, very important that policy enforcement is administered in a fair, thorough and consistent manner by all. However, this has become increasingly difficult as the amount, scope and complexity of legislation has grown. Often, this makes explaining policy harder and raises the distinct possibility that multiple policies will conflict.

NYS is beginning to address the needs of enforcing policy in a consistent manner. We are seeking presenters who can address the above topics, highlighting what business rules are and where they can be found, along with how they should be documented and maintained:

  • Capturing the decision making process of a State agency based on their rules, policy, and legislative documents
  • Enabling business analysts to actively participate in the rule creation/testing process and maintenance of any rule changes
  • Be capable of Providing a clear explanation of how a decision was made, based on specific business rules
  • Reacting to changes in policy, law, or statute using end-to-end solution for development, testing, and deployment of business rules
Presentations must be designed to inform attendees about the session topic and also provide them with practical, actionable information that organizations and end users can apply immediately to their own environments.

These are only examples and we encourage you to think of other ideas that may be relevant.

We encourage creativity in the presentation topic, in order to increase knowledge about the topic to the end user. In order to maximize the value of the event for attendees, documents such as the session presentation, glossaries, checklists, etc. will be solicited from the presenter for posting to The Forum's web site following the event, for attendees to continue their education about the subject.

All presentations must be vendor neutral. All presentations will be vetted by a group comprising members from The NYS Forum Work Groups hosting this event. Feedback and recommendations regarding final presentation material will be provided by this group.

PLEASE NOTE THE RULES OF ENGAGEMENT AND SCHEDULE LISTED BELOW, WHEN CONSIDERING SUBMITTING A PROPOSAL:
