The NYS Forum Business Innovation and Emerging Technology Workgroup's Data & Analytics Community of Interest is developing a multi-event series to explore the data and analytics development lifecycle. This event is the first in the series and focuses on the foundational understanding of how to approach a business issue from an analytical perspective.

The session will feature public and private sector speakers, a table-top exercise that explores the distinction between reporting outputs and analytics outcomes, and devoted networking time to connect with both public and private sector individuals who are in the data and analytics field.

Type of Event: Rapid-Fire Presentation, Table-Top Exercise & Networking

The goal of this session is to address the following topic areas:

  • Important steps and considerations in identifying the questions and objectives that should drive analytics projects
  • Knowing when and how to translate ideal questions into practical questions to get results
  • The difference between outputs/reporting versus outcomes/analytics and their unique value to evaluating impact
  • Setting long-term business intelligence and analytics goals while delivering short-term value
  • Communicating business needs, data and analytics value and delivery expectations and how to get "buy-in".

Learning Opportunities

  • This session provides expert speakers who will address how to define analytics project goals - short-term and long-term and will share best practice ideas on how to articulate the value of analytics.
  • This interactive workshop provides attendees with practice on defining and articulating the desired reporting outputs and analytics outcomes for business projects
  • The session provides a carved out opportunity to network with data and analytics professionals from government agencies across the state as well as expert speakers.
