Call for Presenters

The NYS Forum Project Management Workgroup is pleased to solicit interested parties for presenters for the following seminar. We leverage the membership of The NYS Forum IT Corporate Roundtable as a resource to draw upon for expertise on the topic at hand. Session Topic: Fundamentals of Project Management for an Acting PM

The purpose of this training program series is to introduce NYS staff, acting in a PM (Project Management) role without formal training, to the fundamentals of the project management discipline as outlined in the PMI's Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK). The training program will consist of a series of 10 sessions. Session 1, the Overview, will be a 90-minute lecture providing an overview of the role of the Project Manager and the Project Management discipline. The training program will continue with a series of monthly 60-minute Knowledge Area sessions. Sessions 2-10 are based on the Knowledge Areas in the PMBOK.

PDU's can be claimed for time spent creating and delivering each session.

Sessions 2-10 Knowledge Area Sessions
The Knowledge Area sessions will address the following topics:
  1. Scope Management
  2. Time Management
  3. Cost Management
  4. Quality Management
  5. Human Resource Management
  6. Communications Management
  7. Risk Management
  8. Stakeholder Management
  9. Integration Management

The sessions can be presented in any order, except #9, Integration Management, which must be at the end of the series.

Each session will have a Lecture component and a Lab component. The Lecture will introduce and describe the Knowledge Area. The Lab will solicit questions, issues and real-life examples from the audience on the topic at hand, with the trainer providing specific answers and suggestions for resolution, and involving other attendees in the discussion. Each Knowledge Area session will start with a review of the project lifecycle, and will walk through the processes throughout the project lifecycle associated with the knowledge area being covered.

Session Presenter Proposal Guidelines
  • Proposed presenter will have PM experience
  • Preferable experience qualifications:
    • Seven years of PM experience
    • Prior training experience
    • Presentation experience
    • Mentoring and coaching project managers
    • Experience with Government
  • Presenter will create approximately 10 slides per Knowledge Area Session
  • Presenter may submit proposals for multiple sessions. The expectation is multiple presenters will be chosen for this series.
  • Presentation proposals will be vetted by a group comprised of members from The NYS Forum Work Group hosting this series. Feedback and recommendations regarding final presentation material will be provided by this group.

Presentation Guidelines - Rules of Engagement

  • Presentation must be made using The NYS Forum's Power Point template.
  • Presentations must be vendor and product neutral.
  • Presenter corporate logo and contact information should appear on the first and last Power Point slides only. Corporate logo must not appear on each individual slide.

Schedule

  • 3/8/2016 - Call for presenters distributed to vending community.
  • 3/24/2016 - Deadline for proposals from vendors.
  • 4/4/2016- Selection/notification of presenters
  • Additional information regarding deadlines for draft / final Power Points and related documents will be provided to reflect timing of individual scheduled events.
