Call for Presenters

The NYS Forum is soliciting presentation submissions to be considered for the Project Estimating.

IMPORTANT: Please read the information below thoroughly for details regarding how to submit your presenter information, what to present, important dates and rules of engagement.

Session Description

The objective of this Estimating session is to share best practices for project estimating. In order for projects to be successful they must meet project objectives within the budgets and timeframes expressed to management. Although change is a given in every project, using good project estimation techniques to determine accurate estimates can make a project successful!

The session will be held at the NYS Forum location in Albany, and will also be available as a Webcast.

We are seeking facilitators, presenters and/or members of a panel for this session. We intend to have presentation(s) followed by a panel discussion that will include a question and answer (Q&A) component. You can propose to participate as a Presenter and/or a Panelist. The full session will last 1.5 hours. We encourage you to respond with a proposal, and if you know of government staff who may be a potential Presenter or Panelist, please forward their information.

The session is open to all NYS Forum members, and it would be of particular interest to Project Management practitioners, and Business Analysts and others aspiring to move into a PM role.

Presentation topics may include the following:

These are only examples and we encourage you to think of other ideas that may be relevant.
Presentation and discussion topics could include:

  • Overview and examples of estimation techniques
  • Factors that drive rigor of project estimation - size of project, complexity of business needs, etc.
  • Improving the accuracy of project estimates
  • Assumptions identification and documentation
  • The role of data as input into the project estimation process
  • Lifecycle stage when project estimate is being developed as a factor

All presentations must be vendor neutral. Presentation content will be vetted by members of The NYS Forum Work Group hosting this event. Feedback and recommendations regarding final presentation material will be provided by this group.

Presentation Guidelines - Rules of Engagement

  • Presentation must be made using The NYS Forum's Power Point template.
  • Presenter corporate logo and contact information should appear on the first and last Power Point slides only. Corporate logo must not appear on each individual slide.
  • The presenter must discuss the topic at an expert level, and direct the presentation toward the specific targeted audience identified.
  • The presentation portion may be limited to 45 minutes for all presenters.

  • 3/21/2019 - Call for presenters distributed to vending community.
  • 4/4/2019 - Deadline for proposals from ITCR Members
  • 4/11/2019 - Selection/notification of presenters PLEASE NOTE: All Power Point presentations MUST be made on The NYS Forum Power Point template which will be provided by the workgroup member coordinating this event.
  • 4/18/2019 - Deadline for first draft of presenter Power Points.
  • 5/2/2019 - Deadline for final presentation Power Points.
