The NYS Executive Forum: Create an Internal IT Economy

Speaker: Kevin Belden, Deputy Comptroller - Chief Information Officer of the NYS Office of the State Comptroller will present: Create an Internal IT Economy. "We wouldn't want to live in a centrally planned economy...why are we willing to work in one?"

If the following scenario doesn't apply to you, then I want your job! No matter how hard you and your staff try, you still have unsatisfied customers and stakeholders. Your new IT governance process helps prioritize projects, but much of the business still feels that your organization is unresponsive and your services aren't aligned with their needs. To make matters worse, your budget has been cut another 10%, on top of three successive years of cutbacks. Your stakeholders want to talk to you about doing "more with less," but the conversation you need to have is about doing "less with less."

Most of us have been dealing cyclically with these problems throughout our careers. What are we missing? We need to look at the dynamics that successfully resolve these issues day in and day out in our private lives...the forces of a market economy and clear consumer/provider relationships and accountabilities. Alignment of consumer expectations and supplier products and services happens naturally in the marketplace. Take advantage of these same forces to create a successful IT shared service, operating like a business within a simulated internal market economy.
