IT Accessibility Seminars

On Thursday, May 13th the NYS Forum's IT Accessibility Committee, in conjunction with the NYS Office of the Advocate for Persons with Disabilities and the Northeast ADA & IT Center, Cornell University, offered morning and afternoon seminar sessions on accessible website. The sessions were part of the NYS Governor's Expo on Assistive Technologies.

Presentations included techniques for making visuals, forms, tables, PDF and other proprietary formats accessible. An afternoon session by Andrew Kirkpatrick, NCAM/WGBH, focused on MAGpie, a tool to make streaming video accessible to individuals with disabilities and discussed his work with STEP (Simple Tool for Error Prioritization) a project to help web developers plan remediation efforts based on the results from a validation program.

Of particular interest was the morning presentation by OFT that offered a preview of the draft accessibility policy standards now being reviewed by the CIO council.
