Integrating Web 2.0 into Accessible Online Learning

With the current fiscal constraints in state government, many agencies are turning to online learning to train their employees. There are many ways to create elearning content. However, without a thoughtful approach, these ways may pose barriers for people with disabilities using assistive technology in attempting to engage the learner.

On Thursday, March 10, 2011 the NYS Forum's IT Accessibility Work Group will host "Integrating Web 2.0 into Accessible Online Learning". This session will be presented by Empire State College distance learning faculty Tom Mackey, Ph.D., Interim Dean, and Kelly Hermann, Director of Disability Services. Tom will discuss the technological environment for online learning in general, and Kelly will focus on why access is important and the things to consider when planning for accessible elearning content.

  • Anyone who has used or would like to leverage Web 2.0 technologies as a method of delivering education and training to employees.
