Big Data can Bring Big Value

Kishor BagulHosted by The NYS Forum Innovation and Emerging Technologies Workgroup and attended by nearly 100 people, the September 4 Big Data can Bring Big Value event was a big success.  Kishor Bagul, NYS's Chief Technology Officer from NYS Office of IT Services kicked off the presentations sharing his insight on Big Data.

The event moderator, Dr. Vipin Chaudhary, Professor of Big Data Research from the University at Buffalo, followed with an introductory overview of big data including research and practical experiences he has encountered during his career on the topic. Panelists included  Steve Horn, Dell Consulting Project Manager; Scott Sampson, IBM Director of Information Management & Big Data; Sid Frank, KPMG Director; Ted Coyle, Oracle Senior Sales Consultant; and Pat Herbert, SAS Principle Systems Architect for Big Data, all of whom shared their most interesting use case for Big Data.

September 4th PanelThe team of panelists participated in a discussion exploring the important changes and challenges enabling big data efforts and successes. They shared their thoughts around framework relevance, data governance, data stewardship and data quality, as well as new tools, techniques and technologies (i.e predictive analytics, cloud computing, metadata, etc.) playing a role in making big data analytics a reality.
