Using a Phased Approach to Gain Early Wins in a Complex Multi-Year Implementation

On June 16th, The NYS Forum Project Management Workgroup hosted an event spotlighting the NYS Pesticide Administration Database project.

The featured presenter was NYS ITS Environment and Energy Cluster Project Manager, Christina Pagano.  Ms. Pagano is the project manager for a NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) project to re-write and re-engineer a pesticide tracking  system originally development by Cornell University.  This complex project has been segmented into five phases, in order to support a successful system implementation.

During the event Ms. Pagano provided valuable information on managing a complex multi-year project by combining a traditional waterfall design and analysis with an Agile approach for the system development and delivery.  Ms. Pagano fielded numerous questions throughout the discussion and valuable dialog resulted with event attendees.
