Writing for the Web

WritingWebFrontKristen Albright, IT Specialist 2, NYS ITS, Health and Human Services Cluster was joined by Kathy Farrell, Web Manager, Office of Integrated Technologies, SUNY Empire State College, to present the ever popular half-day seminar, "Writing for the Web"

To an audience of roughly 80 attendees, Kristin and Kathy discussed the growing importance of well-written and easy-to-read content and how its importance is even greater than the need for cutting-edge web technology. Through lecture, group discussions, and hands-on exercises, attendees learned what usability research says about how people read content on web pages and what they can do to make their web pages easier to read.

  • The needs of skilled and unskilled readers;
  • Clarity and conciseness;
  • How to phrase headings and links; and
  • How to organize information more effectively.
