The "new and improved" NYS Project Proposal and Business Case Template

This session discussed one of the most critical Project Management Deliverables - the Business Case. Before a project can be selected for initiation, a compelling case must be made for its viability with respect to competing organizational priorities. The Project Proposal and Business Case is a key defining document that supports the project initiation decision-making process, and through review and update throughout the life of the project, provides continued reassurance that the business need still exists and that the project, as defined, continues to meet that need.

Recently, the State CIO published a new Project Proposal and Business Case template, combining the Project Proposal and Project Business Case templates from the NYS Project Management Guidebook, and adding new sections to support the OCIO's Annual Technology Planning and Peer Review processes. This new and improved template was the focus of this session.
