Application Rationalization:  Optimizing Your Agency’s Technology Portfolio for Greater Value

Many agencies struggle under the weight of their technology portfolios, which often resemble a combination of off-the-shelf systems and custom-built apps that may not fully meet today’s business priorities or adapt well to an increasingly mobile workforce. There may also be an increase in cost and even risk to continue using them in their current state. Today’s modern technology leaders are finding value in Application Rationalization – a process for assessing the entire inventory of available apps to determine which should be retired, retained, refitted or reimagined. The result: a plan for streamlining and promoting efficient usage of the applications while reducing significant cost. In this topic, we will discuss, the issues Application Rationalization addresses and how agencies have used the process to better align their technology to meet today’s business needs.

About John:  John is a Director based in Albany, NY who works in KPMG’s Health and Government Solutions Practice. Over the past 10 years John has worked with both government Health and Human Services (HHS) agencies and private healthcare organizations on business and technology transformation initiatives. John’s experience includes project and program management, requirements documentation, procurement development, business process analysis and optimization, system implementation, business architecture design, application rationalization, and IT portfolio planning and management.
