The NYS Forum Launches Artificial Intelligence Workgroup to Drive Innovation and Ethical AI Practices

(Albany, NY – September 6, 2024) – The New York State Forum is pleased to announce the establishment of a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) Workgroup, marking a significant step forward in addressing the explosive growth and impact of AI technologies. This initiative reflects the Forum’s recognition of the pressing need for a specialized platform dedicated to AI.

For some time, AI has been a focal point within the Forum’s Business Innovation and Emerging Technologies Workgroup discussions. However, the rapid advancement of AI technologies has highlighted the need for a dedicated Workgroup to explore and address its many implications.

The newly established AI Workgroup will be led by the NYS Office of Information Technology’s Director of Data and AI Governance, Gail Galusha, and steering committee comprised of distinguished representatives and industry leaders from various state agencies, authorities, and private sector companies - all of whom are members of the Forum. The Workgroup is set to convene monthly with a clear mandate to:

  • Enhance understanding and application of AI technologies
  • Promote ethical AI practices, enhance data literacy and security awareness as they pertain to AI systems
  • Provide practical tools and strategies for integrating AI into state government operations.

NYS Forum Executive Director Fran Reiter said, “Technology is constantly evolving. In order for the Forum to fulfill its mission of bringing public and private sector technology leaders together to enhance government’s IT operations, its programs must also evolve. The new AI Workgroup is an exciting and necessary addition to our roster of programs.
