During the COVID-19 outbreak, many companies are mandating that their employees work from home. Working from home has a different set of cybersecurity challenges than working at a corporate location. Most home offices have off the shelf routers with minimal security countermeasures.

For an attacker, the distractions brought about by everyone transitioning to remote work is a great time to strike. Leveraging malware posing as COVID-19 dashboards, targeted phishing attacks, and weaponized websites with malware embedded are just some of the ways attackers are compromising remote devices and spreading the malware over VPN connections. Corporate data is being stolen, credit card and personal accounts are being compromised, and attackers are gaining footholds into the corporate network through home worker laptops and desktops.
